CASTLE CONSTRUCTION

A castle we constructed space
Castle Blackguard is a prop, a setting for my 1/6th characters to play out their stories; nothing more. It's representational at best. Your six-year old son could do better.

For the walls, and most everything else, I've used ¾ inch sheets of closed-cell styrofoam 48 in. x 14 in. There are larger and thicker sheets.

Always in a hurry, I make long straight cuts with a carpenter's cross-cut saw. Be warned - the process is messy with prills all over the place. For tight curves, use a sabre saw. For curves of more than a five inch radius, I use a small X-acto, or clone razor saw with a stiffened back (it makes less mess.)

Closed-cell styrofoam melts with a soldering iron's heat 400 deg. F and up: there are hot-wire foam cutters.
